Computer wont display when powered up

I have a 6600GT on an A8N SLI Deluxe board. I am not using a DVI moniter, but I have an adapter. When I turn on the computer, the lights and fans turn on, but there is no picture on my moniter.

Whats up?
 
Monitor is a working unit with another pc I suspect correct? Try another adaptor if you have and try the other dvi out as well. Bios is 1002 correct? Ever had it post? So many possibilities 😉
 
yeah, the moniter works. It shows the screen when no signal is sent. It has never posted, as it was just built
 
I would try reseating your pci-e card/ and the system RAM / see if it posts then. Are your RAM sticks in # 1 and # 3 slots (blue slots)?
Assuming you have 2x256
 
try plugging in another monitor instead of that one to see if its the video card. reseat the graphics card like he said.

no, i only have 1 stick of 512 in slot 1
 
any beeps? try reconnecting the cables that connect your case to your motherboard, and resetting the cmos pins (they are right near the onboard battery)
 
i had the same problem yesterday.. bUT,. it was with different hardware. It was because my crucial value ram wasnt compatible with my msi k8tneo2-fir. I put other ram in and it worked fine. So i flashed to the latest bios and now the ram works
 
This is disturbing, because with my system (see sig), I get the same thing. Mine's a new build as well with an Asus board. The only solution I have found for the problem is to wiggle the monitor cable around a bit, and to unplug it and replug it to the video card. Then miraculously, occasionally, it boots. Usually when it does, I just don't shut it down. Nice solution eh. It is very frustrating, especially when you need to shut it down for an upgrade or something. So far I have heard it could be the ram, video, monitor, monitor cable. I've ruled out all 4 and more with testing & troubleshooting with a spare computer. I gave up. I would absolotely LOVE to see a solution to this one. 3 times I have torn it down to barebones, all for nothing... enough of that. For now I have to live with it. 🙁

That really stinks... So counting you, alexXx, and the thread starter Omizzle, there are 3 reports of problems like this. Anyone else heard more about it? I'm concerned since I'm planning on building a new system very soon.
 
There are a couple other threads reporting the same problem, as well as other forums which contain some. Speculation is that it's simply the Asus boards. If mine ever refuses to boot flat out, I'll RMA it. I am holding out for a solution first so I don't have to go x weeks without my baby. 🙂
 
OK! yes! I found out whats up. I called a friend of mine over, and after a look through the manual, I saw that I HAVE to have it in Dual Channel mode. And the 2 sticks of 256 were too small. Each chip must have more than 16mb on it (there are 8). So my RAM is with the delivery courier!! 1 gig of dual channel Kingston hyperX! OMG yay!
 
You can run single channel or dual channel. Your making no sense. Above you say you have 1 512mb. Now you say your using 2x 256mb. Plug a speaker into the audio jack. See what it says when you boot up. Not sure which jack in back. Try them all out. The board has vocal post reporting. Should tell you what isn't working.
 
OK. I think i left a few things out *oops*. OK, I had 2x256 sticks that i toook from my old computer. Each stick had 16 chips on it. each chip had 16mb on it. As I said, that was too small. Then i borrowed a friends RAM, 1x512, and that didnt work b/c it had to be in Dual channel
 
YOU DON"T HAVE TO BE IN DUAL CHANNEL MODE TO WORK. Go plug in a speaker if you got headphones use those. It'll say cpu failed or video card failed something of that nature when you boot it up.
You have your power hooked up right? Try pulling out the video card and push it back in.
If your using 1 video card you do have it in the right slot blue? ez selector the right way.

😛 i don't think that's the solution to our problem, but hey, if it is working now, then more power to ya!
