computer wont display anything out of nowhere

My computer has been running perfect since I put it together 1 year ago. All of sudden it won't display anything on my monitor. The board isn't making any warning beeps or anything, it just says no display detected! I am totally confused how this can happen out of nowhere as I have good parts and they aren't that old.

It all started a couple days ago when I powered off my computer with the button on the front. Right after before it powered down it made a warning beep and ever since it hasn't turned on.

What would the possible reasons for this be? I have no other parts to switch in to determine the culprit. I even reset the cmos but it still won't start.

it just did this high pitched beep as it was shutting down. thats it.

whats a multimeter and how do i test my psu with it?

oh, and my computer still powers up and all. there is a green light on my motherboard that is showing power to my sb.

doesn't mean the PSU is not faulty. I would suggest you Google "test computer PSU with a multimeter" and the articles will show you all the things to test depending on the type and wattage of PSU.

Are you using on-board video, or videocard? Could be a faulty card or PSU. I have had experiences where an inadequate PSU would cause the video to die even while the rest of the computer continues to function. A PSU upgrade fixed it. In your case it may be a faulty PSU and I would test it with a multimeter.

Does the monitor have multiple inputs? (VGA, DVI, Composite)

If so, are you sure you have the right input selected? There is usually a input select button right with all the other function buttons on the monitor but some monitors require you to go though the menu system to set the input.

I have had a high pitched been from my computer before for the graphics card power cable not being plugged in. Didnt have anything show up on display. Could it be this if yours has one?

I can assure you I have the right input selected on my monitor, I'm not THAT stupid...lol

I opened my case up and looked for any loose cables and tried resetting the cmos. still won't work. im thinking its either the psu, video card or possibly the motherboard. i hope its just the psu as i cant afford replacing anything over $100 right now.

I'm probably going to just bring it in to the shop. I don't have the time or patience to go buy a multimeter and learn how to use it on my computer.

i would still recommend buying a multimeter anyway. a good $25 one can last you for several decades and can be used to meter tons of things (hence the name) including amperage, voltage, wattage, temperature, ohms, resistance, ect ect. depending on which features the one you buy has. it is a must have for any technically inclined computer user

Ok. We have a problem here.

If any of those are working your machine isn't going to boot. So what does the PC do exactly when you turn it on?

Just fixed the same, It was the Power Supply. Enough to turn on but not good enough to boot. An Extra PS can be had for cheap swapping purposes. If that fixes problem consider a better supply.

haha? A Corsair 620HX isn't a good enough power supply? I'm not going to be happy if I have to buy another one of those or something more expensive.
