computer wont boot

So I just finished building my computer, however, when I turn it on nothing comes up on the monitor. I'm worried I may have fried something in the build process...or I don't have the video card hooked up properly.

any help is GREATLY appreciated.
 
New motherboards use a secondary power cable called the ATX12V cable, with only yellow wires (12-volt) and black wires (ground). The motherboard has a dedicated receptacle for this power cable. Is that connected?
 
there is another connection, a 4 pin one a believe...that's not connected. but i dont think there is a place to put it? I tried connecting to the pcie vcard slot right below the vcard and that doesnt work either.
 
Maybe a list of your computer's specs will help, including your brand & model of power supply. 🙂 Also, many video cards now require one or two power cables of their own, so check if those are hooked up.

im worried maybe i fried my vcard during the install process? my lcd monitor goes directly into power saving mode every time i turn on the computer.
 
1) good, you have a decent power supply

2) your motherboard needs three power cables. The big 24-pin one, the eight-pin ATX12V / EPS12V one, and the 4-pin one that goes in the receptacle just above the video-card slot, shaped the same as on your DVD drive.

3) your video card takes two 6-pin PCI-Express power cables.
 
do you mean the atx4p1 connecter? I have that plugged in...but maybe you mean something else because my sata dvd-rom doesnt have a connecter like that.

Take a careful look at your PSU. Looking at Newegg's photo, I see it has an 8-pin ATX12V cable. And looking at their photo of your motherboard, it has an 8-pin CPU power connector for that cable. Make sure the 8-pin cable is plugged into the 8-pin receptacle.

Also, in that picture, look carefully at the Additional power connector. Follow the red line from the words Additional power connector to the right. See the 4-pin receptacle? Hook up a cable to that.

Does it work now?
 
I have the 8-pin cpu power connecter connected. as well as the additional power connector. it does not work still.
 
Try unplugging the computer, then resetting the CMOS using the technique covered in the owner's manual. Sometimes that solves problems, sometimes it doesn't. Do you have another PCI-Express system that you could test the video card in, if you had to start troubleshooting piece-by-piece?
