I upgraded the CPU in my computer as well as the ram, and now my computer gets stuck when it tries to load Windows XP, I tried running it in safe mode but it gets stuck at mup.sys or something like that in the windows drivers directory. Anyone have any ideas? Also if I need to reformat where can I go to recover my outlook express e-mails? Thanks!!!

Is this a new CPU on the old motherboard or a new MB? If it's a new MB, you'll have to reinstall windows.

I reccomend installing alongside your current install (instead of c:windows, install in c:winxp for example), then you can still access your files and such. Migrate everything then delete the old install.

its a new CPU on a old motherboard. The thing is, it won't even let me reinstall windows, the screen gets stuck after the drivers are loaded when I try to boot from the windows XP CD. Also I was using outlook express 6, which came with windows XP. I tried looking for my e-mails before but couldn't find the directory that it was stored in, so if anyone knows the default directory or the file its stored in that would be greatly appriciated. :)

If it won't even let you reinstall windows, there could be some issue with your ram or cpu.

The motherboard is a via chipset and I upgraded from a 1.6 duron to a xp 2200+. I had 2 chips of PC3200 unregistered non ecc chips that I changed to 2 new chips, 1 thats PC2700 and 1 thats PC3200 both unregistered and non ecc. Would the differnce in ram speed make a differnce? Note that the motherboard only accepts PC2100 so i'd figure everything would be underclocked to PC2100 anyways, and since the pair of PC3200 ram chips worked fine, I thought the combination of PC2700 and PC3200 would be fine too.
