Ok, my friends computer will not boot, he acted a little stupid while in Windows and aprogram froze, so he hit the power button and cut the computer off and then back on. Upon cutting the PC back on when he gets to the Windows XP Boot screen, the bar will go across for a few seconds and then the entire PC will restart. I'm not sure what to try here in order to make it work...help!!! Thanks.

try rebooting
hit f8 to go to safe mode then system restore

or put the win xp cd and try repair option

both have worked for me before on same problem

I tried booting into safe mode like that and the system restarts when I do that and the restore option wants me to go int othe Recovery Console...which I have no clue on how to fix it there...

But the repair option on the Windows XP disc takes you to the recovery console...I'll try and use that link...brb

When you boot from CD, instead of going to fecovery console select the install option and select to install on the same partition as windows used to be on. If the registry is still intact, then you should see a prompt that says that the partition has a previous instalation of windows and you can repair it instead of instaling a vompetely new one. Select repair and if will repair and will result in the full system with all installed programs but none of the windows updates or patches. The prompt to upgrade should be right after you press F8 I believe to except the licence agreement. If it does something else then most likely your registry is corrupt and it can't upgrade. Then if he uses System Restore, there is a way to restore the system using the recovery console. The posted link has some good pictures and information. I found the imformation I mentioned online. I will post the link if I can find it.
