Computer won't boot aka I think I jacked it up**UPDATE 1/9**

Long story short, I took apart my setup (1.4 Athlon, ECS K7S5A, 512 DDR PC2700, 100gb, 80 gb) and then put it back together.

Now, when I turn it on, it won't beep. I've tried to boot with nothing but the CPU and mobo (no RAM, no PCI cards).

However, when I put in a Athlon 700, I get to the boot screen, but then it says: "Checking NVRAM" and then just hangs.

I think I jacked up my mobo, but I want to make sure.

Thanks

UPDATE 1/9/03

I put in my two HDD (Primary) and two optical drives (dvd-r and cdrw) with 700mhz Athlon and 256 mb ddr ram.

I boot up with a WinXP disc and it begins setup, but it hangs when it says: "Setup is starting Windows" with a blue background.

1 - why did you take it apart ? other problem we need to know about ?

2 - start with the minimum . 1 ram ,vid card ,chip AND heatsink.

check that the ram is in correctly .make sure the heatsink is on correctly . if you have more than 1 stick mem try the other one if the first doesn't do it and try other slots . make 1 change at a time.
have access to another comp ? you can try your parts on it .
you can also try removing mb from case and bench test it.

PS: found this : Another type of NVRAM uses EEPROM chips to save its contents when power is turned off. In this case, NVRAM is composed of a combination of SRAM and EEPROM chips.
might be a bad bios chip.

good luck

My brother and I built a PVR, and bought a ECS 333mhz mobo and Duron 1.6 combo. I was going to take the mobo and use my current 1.4 Athlon keep my 512mb PC2700 RAM, while the PVR was going to have the ECS K7S5A mobo and the 1.6 duron with PC 133 memory chips.

Well, we tried that combo (Old ECS mobo w/ 1.6 Duron) with the PVR, but it didn't work. We had an old Athlon 700 chip, which we got to boot, but nothing else. Eventually we settled for the current setup (New ECS w/ 1.6 Duron). Basically I gave my RAM to the new machine because the mobo won't take PC133.

So, I tried to put back my setup together, but now it won't boot. I've tried using my original memory (DDR), but it still won't work.

How do I bench test the mobo? I think that is the culprit.

i meant to remove the MB from the case , lay it on the box it came in (if the bag is the silvery anti-static type DON'T lay the mb on it. that type can short it out and not let it boot. the pink style is OK as far as i know). carefully install i stick memory , vid card , chip w\heatsink. clear the CMOS , attach PS (no drives)and see what you get. if it posts then start to add drives , ect. 1 at a time and see what happens. if nothing try the memory in another slot. still nada? it may be the MB or the chip may not be supported by the mb's bios. that will get you nothing as far as an indication .
good luck
