I'd like to donate this computer to goodwill but I don't want to if it's not working correctly. Here's the only problem with it.

Everytime I try to boot this setup it won't on first try, but will boot successfully every subsequent try. Once I leave it alone for an extended period (hour or more) it won't boot again until the 2nd try.

When cold and the power button is pressed all the fans spin up (case, cpu, etc.), the hard drive spins, keyboard lights up, and everything else, except I can't hear the memory being checked and I get no video signal. This occurs with three different, known good, power supplies, all p4 approved. One is an antech power supply. I've tried unplugging all drives and add-in cards (except video), with same results. I've tried various sticks of memory all with the same results.

Here's the basic setup:

Abit BE6 motherboard
P3 850mhz
ATI 3d Ragepro PCI

anyone know why this won't boot on first try when cold?

Thanks

Try swapping out that video card.... and making sure your bios is set to boot with pci video and not agp.
