Computer will sometimes will not post/reboot

Ok,

I am working with the following system:

Asus p2l97-s
128 meg sdram(3 dimms)
sis trio 64 pci video
3com ethernet
pentium II-233mhz

I am having a weird problem:

My computer sometimes posts fine when turned on from "cold", however, it frequently does not post when turned on after the computer has been on for a little bit, or when rebooted.

For example, If use the computer for a bit, turn it off, unplug it for ~ 5minutes(or more) it usually posts and boots fine.
If I reboot the computer,(by pressing ctrl-alt-del) it usually won't post(unless I unplug it, wait a minute or two, and plug in)
Also, sometimes to post, I need to hold down the power button/use the hard reset button in various orders

So essentially I have a computer that SOMETIMES posts.

Note: It happens without any drives connected, so thery should be irrelevant.

I've tried to trouble shoot it in a couple ways. All have displayed the same problem
Different processor both a 233 p2 and 350 p2 underclocked to 233. Both with OEM heatsinks
4 different power supplies 145watt-235watt. Show fine voltages in the bios.
(all of the above came from computers that were in someway not functional, but all seem to work fine(other than this problem).
front panel buttons(don't know how, but I tried another set just for fun)

My other thoughts that might cause it:
Ram -no errors in memtest 86(run on the same motherboard/processor)
Bios- shows up as the latest on the website
motherboard(how else to test it, other than to replace it?)
video card - not sure why, but I guess it could be.

Any thoughts on what it might be, and what to test?

It sounds like something inside your computer is heating up when it's on, and not making a proper connection when it's heated. Have you tried reseating all the memory, cards, etc.?
