Computer will only run on its side!

Hehe, I just brought my computer back from college (3 hour drive), and now my computer will only run on its side for some reason. If on it's side the monitor will come on, but if it's upright, then there is no signal sent to the monitor (it sounds like the computer is running, but it doesn't sound like it's booting up windows). Any suggestions? Sound like a short in the power supply maybe?

Any ideas? This is crazy..
Thanks

Try reseatting all yoru components or checking if they are all secure. Sounds like your cpu or ram might be a tad loose. Check the cpu and give it a nice push or a reseatting.

I have the case open and am moving power supply wires around and trying to see if that works. I just don't see how putting it on its side will cause it to run when it won't run upright. I'll get it running upright, then SLOWWWLY lift it up, and it will lock up (screen freezes, doesn't disappear)

I'll see if the ram or cpu is loose.

My friend has this crappy Compaq system and when they brought it to college, her computer would not bootup, but only power up. I was baffled as I was talking to her on the phone until I told her to open it up. It turns out the big thing lying on the bottom of her case was her cpu!

I pushed the ram and cpu in and that seemed to do the trick. I guess that makes sense why it was running on its side and not upright. I've got a celeron 300a@450, and I guess that little bit of gravity when on its side was making it work.

Thanks!

A commute in a car for a computer is not very fun. I try to insulate it with pillows so it doesn't injure itself hehe. I also had a friend who's power button go messed up somehow during a 2 hour commute. He had to cut the wires and ghetto rig it to where he could just tap two wires together to turn it on. The ultimate security for your files! How can they see your secret files if they can't turn on your computer!

Ya, Syborg1211 is right. Cats like car rides better then computers. I used to use pillows, didnt quite do the job though. Ended up getting a BMW, that seemed to do the trick..... 😉

When I take the computer home I usually put it in the passanger seat and put the seat belt on it. I get some pretty weird looks when I pass people 🙂
