I have a gigabye board a reversion of the GA-7DX. It is a socket A board it takes ddr ram. I put it together when I push power my optical mouse gets light and there is a little light on the board that gets lit. But the all the fans in the system including the power supply fan do not turn on and it appears that the HD and CD rom aren't getting power either. Does anyone know if there is a certain jumper you have to use or is it toast even thought the mouse lights up and the light on the mother board lights up?

Are there any diagnostic lights on the motherboard?
I had a similar problem but I believe all the fans were working on mine.
The led's don't use a lot of power so you might have a dying power supply.

Well, I don't know about diagnostic lights, there is one led light on the board that lights up, it would be nice if it was the power supply and not the board.

If you have access to another power supply I would recommend testing it out before you get too wrapped up in this.
It doesn't sound like the board though, because the rest of the powered parts would still be running.

yeah, make sure it's not your battery. And if that checks out OK, don't forget to spray some ether into the intake before you push the button. Do you have enough gas in the tank too? lol

For boards with jumpers the FIRST thing to do is very carefully read the manual to be sure jumpers are set correctly. I'm ignorant about Gigabyte boards, but my impression is that most use jumpers.

For most system-builders, the common problems are motherboard shorted to ground, improperly seated memory stick(s) and improperly seated cpu.

At startup, the only slots that should be populated should be cpu, video card and ram chips. Install other devices after you get system to boot. This also minimizes load on PS at boot.

Check for mobo-to-case grounding by starting up with board outside case or by laying board inside case with a layer of cardboard to isolate the board from any contact with case - no stand-offs attached to board.

If speaker is external to board, make sure speaker connections are OK so you can hear beep codes.

Some boards (Abit) have a thermal sensor under cpu for thermal contact. Some have to bend down thermal sensor a bit to fully seat cpu.

Be very certain that memory sticks are fully seated. Big problem on some boards and with some ram sticks.

Mount cpu and ram sticks with board outside case, for close examination and to forcefully seat ram sticks without damaging board.

The LED diagnostic is only available on MSI motherboard (Epox also has a similar technology called digital diagnostic). The most likely causes of your problem are 1) bad biochip or 2) cheap powersupply. Please makesure that your powersupply's 3.3v rating is 16A or above because 3.3v is use for motherboard logic.

I tried another power supply and now it boots up to a point, it detects the cpu ram the hd and then gives me this error message CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded. What causes this, it says push del to enter setup I hold down del and it doesn't go into the bios.

Ok I got my computer to boot, it seems to be fine, when I tried to run 3d mark second eddition, it was going good until it got stuck before the first test was over. Could a small power supply cause this I think it's 300 watts, until I get the replacement.
