Computer Will Not Restart

Hi. When I go to restart my computer, it will not restart. The screen stays "Windows is Shutting down" and never restarts by itself. I have to hit the reset switch on my case in order for it to restart. I don't guess that it hurts anything to do it that way, but it is not normal. Can anyone tell me what i can do to make it work properly? Here is my setup...thanks!

Inwin S500 Mid-Tower ATX Case
Asus CUSL2-C Mobo
Intel PIII 800 133FSB
128 PC133 SDRAM
30Gb Samsung HD
50x Affrey CD-ROM
Sony 8x/4x/32x CD-RW Drive
GeForce2 GTS 32MB Video
SBlaster Live! Value Sound Card
LinkSys LNE100 LAN Card
Logitech KB & Mouse

I think I may have heard this is a result of your network card...waiting for a disconnect...Are your computers networked together?

When did start happening and did it happen out of the blue?

You didn't say which window os you were using but i had that same problem with win98. I found an update there that allowed an extra 2 secs for the hd to shut down. If i understood the explanation of the update it seems that fast cpus shut down before the hd is ready...and it hangs on shutdown. Or i could be talking out my as*. Anyway, just do a windows update and d/l it, it helped me.

Oops. I am using Win98 SE. I have only 1 PC so there isn't a network connection for multiple PC's. The LAN card is installed for the cable modem. I just did a re-format and it happened about half way through the installation of all the device drivers for my hardware and the Windows updates. I'm not sure exactly when it started during that process, I wasn't paying enough attention. I have gotten all of the updates from Microsoft that are currently available. Any other ideas? Thanks.

it hangs because it is waiting for some driver, vxd, or dll to unload

there's no easy way to figure out which one and why (bad registry entry, corrupt file, missing file, etc.)

u say about halfway during the installation...good luck with figuring it out...you could try uninstalling stuff (installation in reverse) to diagnose it...
