I built a new system for my in-laws: Generic case, Roswell 400watt power supply, Kingston PC 2700 512MB RAM, ASUS P4GE-MX Motherboard, Celeron D 2.4 GHz processor, DVD drive, DVDRW drive and a 40 GB Maxtor PATA drive. After I built it the first time it ran fine for a couple of days and then it went into sleep mode and would not come out of it. Shut the machine down and it would not power up. I tested the power supply with a Antec power supply tester and it tested ok. Swapped out the RAM and the RAM works in my other system. I thought it was the motherboard and RMAd it back to ASUS they took forever and just swapped it out with another not even giving me an explanation to what was wrong with the original. I placed the replacement board in and the same thing happened again after 5 days. Anybody have any ideas?

Just because it says its ok doesn't mean that is beefy enough for that system. Try another one, gotta start somewhere.

Well I reset the BIOS and tried a different power supply and processor and still no luck, the green LED on the motherboard lights up but that is it. I think there is a faulty PCI card or DVD drive that is hosing the mother board.

disconnect everything from the mobo except the ram, cpu, and powersupply. Try to see if it boots.

Add one thing at a time to try to isolate the problem. Disconnect any connectors to the front panel except the one for powering on.

I had an issue like this, and believe it or not, it was a faulty front panel on an Antec P160 case. The wiring in it was done wrong and plugging in any of the connectors on it made my PC refuse to boot.
