Computer will not POST

Hey guys, I need an opinion on what I should be looking to replace.

System Specs:
E6600 cpu
Gigabyte GA-965P DS3 V1.0 motherboard
EVGA 8800 GTS 320mb vid card
2.0 gb Crucial Ballistix memory
550w powersupply

Recently I turned it on and it will not display anything, not even bios. My lcd screen goes into standby mode and the hard drive light stays on. There are NO post beeps, so I'm assuming it is not the vid card? I'm thinking mb or bios? Or potentially PSU, though I don't want to order a slew of parts to replace..so I'm trying to narrow it down. Any tricks, tips or info on what is wrong?

All other lights and fans in the case come on, but maybe it can still be the psu?

Thanks,
Jack

gunslinger,

Try pulling the video card and see if you can get post beeps. If so, reseat video and try again. Do the same for each stick of Ram.
Of course try a CMOS reset before you do anything else.
That's about all I can suggest without using spare/alternate parts.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply, I did end up fixing the problem. Someone suggested unplugging the PSU from the power outlet, and depressing the the power button on the computer for 3 seconds. I guess by doing so you discharge any resident electricity in the system, and also I was told this performs some sort of bios function?? In any case after trying this, it booted up fine.. I'm a little perturbed still that it occurred in the first place. Makes me think there is still something that needs to be found and fixed. I do appreciate the reply as I was going nuts thinking I'd have to replace the mb/cpu/ and or vid card.

Thanks,
Jack

If you experience the problem again you might look to replacing the CMOS battery. If the battery is low or dead, your procedure will reset the BIOS. Could be what you accomplished.
Anyway, glad you are back in business!!

CoachB, I was thinking something similar. Either the Battery or something specific to the Bios. I may reflash as well if I experience it again. As the motherboard is only a few months old, still could be the battery though.

Thanks again for the responses.
Jack
