When I turn on the computer it will turn on for a couple of seconds then turn off. Then it will not turn back on for a while. I tried another power supply and the same thing is happening. I figure the motherboard has gone bad but is there anything else that would cause the computer to turn off after a couple seconds like that?

Heat?

How's the CPU HS&F? Clogged with dustbunnies? Fan failing to turn fast enough?

Bad electrical outlet? Try another maybe.

Might disconnect all drives, pulling add-in cards (except gfx) etc. See what happens.

Might clear the CMOS too.
