So I recently bought parts to build my first computer...
AMD 64 3000+
Gigabyte K8NS Pro
160GB Samung 7200 HD
Antec SLK3700-BQE
1GB PC-3200 Geil DDRAM
dvd rom
dvd +/- rw
and
ATI AIW 9700 Pro

Now i put it all together and i'm very certain i did it correctly. So i tried to turn it on....nothing happened. So i pushed the power button again, nothing happened. I then changed the screws holding in the mobo and reconnected everything, pressed power, nothing happened, pressed it again it booted up. So I installed XP Professional and some drivers and all that good stuff. I turned it off and then went back later to turn it back on and it would not boot up at all. The CPU fan and the system fan would spin for a second and then stop, the RAM LED's would also stay lit. I took out the RAM, it didnt boot. Took out the ATI AIW & the Ram...it booted up and started beeping. So i put the RAM back in, left the AIW out and it booted up...but i couldnt see anything seeing as how my video card was out. so i sent it back to newegg for rma repair and i got it back today. I installed it....and the same frickin thing happens!!!! I do not understand why it will not start! Anyone who can help me or have any ideas why this is happening??

Thanks you!

could be a bad agp port. Also your power supply could be too weak to power the card and your other components.

What brand is it?

El cheapo power supplies seem the cause of more probs..

My next step w/b to take mobo out of the case and put it on a phone book. Leave in cpu (plus HSF), ram and vid card. If no go try another psu. If no go test for beep codes like you've done. If I don't get beep codes then I rma.

If it does boot I add HD. If that goes OK I put it back in case. This will rule out mobo grounding to case etc

the power supply is just the one that came with the antec case, so i believe its antec

so what youre saying to do Fern is...
1. take the mobo out of the case, unconnect the case fan, system fan, HD, dvd-rom, and dvd +/- rw and place it on a phone book
2. if it doesnt work get another PSU and try the same thing
3. test for beep codes if that doesnt work (how would i test for these if the computer is not turning on???)
4. RMA (what would you rma??? the mobo??)

but if it does work out of the case, gradually add back the components and if it all works that means its grounding to the case? and i would fix that how???

thanks for your help
