Computer will not boot! Says unmountable boot!

Lately, I've been hearing a slight clicking noise every now and then inside my computer. I don't know exactly where it is coming from... but I'm guessing it's the motherboard or hs. It all the sudden started to shut down on its own after being on for a while. I figured it was due to overheating so I checked everything out and used some compressed air to clean the dust out of the hs and everything else. Now, when I try to start my computer up I get the blue screen saying unmountable boot. Is there anyway I can get my computer to start up again w/out reformatting? Please help. Thanks in advance.

yes..clicky harddrive..but maybe salvageable..what make of hd? if you have another hd that you can use as a Master in your system you could possibly make the clicky one a Slave and possibly transfer out your "goodies"

Despite you possibly could have a hardware problem (with the clicking noise), it may only be software that is causing the blue screen. Are you using WinXP? If so, does the blue screen state "unmountable boot volume"? If so, the boot.ini is damaged. Go to Yahoo and type in "unmountable boot volume windows xp" and you will see fix. You will have to boot to the WinXP CD, go to repair, run a couple of commands and then you should be up and running. I have fixed two customer's PC's with this problem.

If you are not using WinXP, sorry, don't know? You may have to do what "ScrapSilicon" stated to possibly save your data.

Actually, yes I am using WinXP. And the blue screen does say unmountable boot volume. I will check for the fix. Thanks. If you could, try to enable your PM's so I can contact you.
