Computer will not boot into Windows 98SE

I'm trying to fix a computer that will not boot into Windows 98SE and I could use some help. Apparently an old DOS game (possibly Maniac Mansion) was installed and uninstalled. The problem started right after that. The computer will begin to boot up then stop giving this message, "You are in MS-DOS mode." then asks if you want to boot into Windows. Choosing "no" sends me to a command prompt while choosing "yes" causes the computer to restart and do the same thing over again.

For starters... can you boot to safe mode? Hold down the Control key while booting and try it.

Look in your autoexec.bat file. See if there's a line that says "Dos=Single". If there is, delete that line. That line will automatically boot you to msdos mode no matter where you want to go.

Yes. I can boot into safe mode. I have looked that the autoexec.bat and have REM'd out a couple of lines that were causing some problems.

I do remember that "DOS=Single" line in there. I'll delete it tomorrow and see what happens.

Sometimes simply typing "Exit" as if you were in a dos window will make it reboot normally.
