I have a computer here that I'm trying to fix. It just died in the middle of a game of solitaire :), The problem was determined to be the power supply, but it has been replaced and the symptoms are still the same, absolutely no signs of life whatsoever. Although if i put my ear really close to the mobo I can here some faint sounds almost like a clicking. The power supply died most likely as a result of the recent rash of power surges that have been happening around here... is all of my other hardware dead too?:
Athlon 64 3200
Gigabyte GA-K8NS Nforce 3 mobo
WD 80GB 8 mb cache HD
Nvidia Geforce 2 MX
512 DDR 400 RAM

Oh Boy!!- a good excuse to get that new graphics card.

But you should first buy a good UPS that has surge protection. An APC 1000 would protect your investment.

Haha yeah, well this isnt my main computer and its not used for anything that needs more video card power which explains the Geforce 2, I was worried it was my mobo, and it probably is.

Nah I unplugged the hard drives power while testing the power supply and it still made the sound.

Probably not all your harware is dead but surges can do stealth damage you don't see until later.

Ever hear of an UPS-battery backup?
