Buy a used Q6600. I was in a similar situation so I bought a Q6600, a 5870 video card, new 650W PS, an SSD and couple new 1TB hard drives. It was a lot cheaper than starting from scratch and I'm happy and good for another 2-3 years.

I would take a bit from sm625 for upgrading the video card.
and from BadThad the 650W psu.

Ok guys, first off thanks for everyone help and time. You guys have given me some great ideas for my computer build and I think I have it almost squared away. I just need some feedback on if what I have is solid. Any room for improvement ? Also what ram should I get?

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz

CORSAIR Professional Series HX750

ASRock Z68 Extreme3

EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1572-AR GeForce GTX 570

OK as it stands everything is going to run me about $850, I have $1000 to spend. I still need RAM advice and of course if you see improvements please let me know. SO how does the build look ?

it depend on you budget. this is the spec. from asrock.
Note1: 4PCS = dual channel, supports 2 modules and 4 modules
Note2: 2PCS = tested successfully with 2 modules
Note3: Due to the configuration of CPU, the default speeds of DDR3 2400/2200/2000/1800 MHz will operate at DDR3 2133/2133/1866/1600 MHz.
Note4: The O.C. mode is not guaranteed. It depends on whole system configuration and other parameters.
Note5: For system stability, use more efficient memory cooling system to support a full memory load (4 DIMMs) when overclocking.
Note6:( It is recommended to install memory module in DDR3_A2 or DDR3_B2 slot first!)

if i had the money you do i would do the following.

I wouldnt bother going new.

people are selling their old c2d quads cheap.

what i would invest my money on would be the following.

1. used proc quad.
2. used 5870 (no point on going to a 6870 unless you go crossfire or games start using more tessellation)
3. 700 watt quality powersupply
4. New ssd drive but only get one that is sata2 sata3 drives will perform slower in a sata2 environment.
5. pick up more memory so you are up at 8gb

then save the rest of the money :)
