Computer turns on/off by itself

My computer seems to have a habit of turning on for 3-10 seconds and then turning off again. This has happened with two different MSI motherboards (K7T Pro2A and K7T2 Turbo). It has nothing to do with wake on lan since I turned that feature off and also unplugged the ethernet wire. I'm about to buy a new power supply, but I thought I'd get some advice first. Thanks.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, in that the power supply is faulty. It could be that you're trying to push too much power through it, or that, simply put, it's failing. You *may* want to check and see if hibernate is on, just in case.

Check the reset terminal on the power cable.
Make sure the 2 halves are not spread too far apart.
I had the same problem. I pinched the 2 halves
closer together and it cleared the problem

Which power cable are you talking about? Do you mean the twisted case wire that plugs into the reset pins of the motherboard? If so, those pins are fine. If not, what exactly do you mean? Thanks. I've already ordered another power supply. But if that doesn't solve the problem, it's better to find out the real cause late than never.
