It just continually beeps intermitantly. all the fans and lights are on but it does nothing else. I tried turning off the psu and unpluging it for a perios of time. That fixed it. but why did that happen in the first place. do you think the power supply might be going bad? I just got it a few weeks ago. but I didn't pay very much for the psu. If you think itis going bad. should I replace it now before it dies and brings my comp to the grave with it?

thanks

Not enough information to really diagnose what your problem might be BUT if you purchased a cheap power supply, you probably made a big mistake. You should NOT skimp when buying a power supply since all else flows from this.

The beeps are the POST codes... and if you can tell us how it beeps, we can tell you what's wrong (or you can google for the beeps... just look for 'POST codes')

Agreed on the beep codes, make sure that your RAM and video card are securely seated in your computer (you have the video card screwed in and the clips on the side of the memory banks are clipped right?)

get the mobo manual and it should state what each of the beeps mean, or the patterns of the beeps.

I'm thinking either the memory is bad, seated incorrectly, or not compatible with the motherboard.
