Computer turns on,but nothing shows up on the moniter?

Ok, it sounds like your POSTing. That's good. 🙂

I think your vid card is gone, unless you've got it working in a different system. Check the card in a different system, if you can. You don't need to load all the drivers in another system just to check basic funtion. Just stick it in the other system and see if you get a signal. Once you know that, we can move on.

Im using the video card right now,on this computer..it works fine. Before I had the moniter plugged into the graphics card,it was saying " Moniter is working, check signal cable",then when I plug the moniter intot he graphics card,it says "Moniter is in save mode, activate using PC" .

Rike,
Looking back I see you have had the possible vid card problem in the back of your head the whole time... good call on that.

But I wonder why his system won't boot with the onboard video adapter... times like this when I wish I were there actually looking at the system!😀

Is there any way you can get into the BIOS and possibly set up your AGP adapter maybe?

I think with that board you press the 'del' key right at boot up...

Hmm I dont know,im not getting ANYTHING on the screen at all..no BIOS or nothing. It's like the moniter isnt plugged into the video card at all. I dont know why, because this card works fine on this computer.

I wish I had a camera,id take a bunch of pics heh..no digital camera tho 🙁

Also, this wont be the graphics card im going to use in the final build,im just trying to see if everything works right. If the computer comes on and stays on..thats a pretty good sign, right?

Try this:

plug the monitor cable to your onboard VGA adapter while your video card is still in your AGP slot. then go into BIOS and maybe enable your AGP slot. Not the best advice, but hey it may work...😱

Also, iNSAN1TY where are you seeing codes? On the mobo somewhere or do they flash on the screen first and then nothing more through the monitor?

You know what, I missed that question Rike, sorry. The codes on seeing are on the mobo itself, the ABit I have has a little LCD thingie where it displays codes.

Does this mobo have on-board video!?! As in, integrated into the mobo?

If that's true, then this is easy and I'm stupid!!!

Plug into the onboard port like kelly said, go into your bios and disable on-board video, make sure AGP is enabled, then save. Move monitor plug to card and you should be good to go. Double check the mobo manual. That should be it.

BED TIME! 😀

I'll try that in the morning for sure, thanks for all your guys' help and yes,bed time it is!

Dang! That's not it. Look at it again after some sleep. I'll check back in the late afternoon tomorrow, maybe earlier.

Hmm,I dont know what it is guys..the port that I thought would be a video port,in my manual says "COM1: Connects to extrenal modem, mouse or other devices that support this communication protocol" ..Though it does look exactly like a video port : /

EDIT: Would it hurt to try that port and see if it works? I dont think it will, but ya never know. What im wondering is,if it actually goes in,but isnt meant for that port..could that cause any problems?

Thanks

You don't have on board video. Please don't try to put the monitor in the com1 port. That would be bad.

Do you have another vid card you can try? I'm starting to think that you have an issue with the AGP slot or some other mobo issue. If that's true, it's beyond my knowledge to help out. It may be time to RMA the mobo. Before you do though, I would really try another card if you can, just in case.

Just to sum up if someone else might be able to help out:
1. Rig POSTs but shows no video at any point.
2. Vid card seems to work fine on a different machine as does the monitor.

Sorry I couldn't do more, iNSAN1TY, I just can't think of anything else to try. 🙁

Good luck!

Thanks for all your help Rike,I will be getting my 6800GT in a few weeks,so i'll see if that works. If not i'll RMA the board. I have also emailed ABIT,but no response yet.

Hopefully I can get this issue resolved,as my computer stays on and very cool. It was on for 3 hours last night, and my case was actually cold to the touch, woot! 🙂

PM me when you get the new vid card. I'd like to hear how things turn out.

Man, there is nothing more frustrating than getting new toys and not being able to use them!

Some errors I see from time to time:

1) newbies forgetting to put standoffs under the motherboard

2) newbies forgetting to hook up their ATX12V cable to the motherboard

3) AGP card is only halfway down into the AGP slot (it's got two layers, look here for visuals)

4) Keyboard plug is in the green mouse port (d'oh! 😱)

and a host of other things that you can go through here (top link on the page). Caution: your eyes will glaze over at the number of items in that document 😉 Go one at a time and methodically comprehend them and check your work, point by point.

You know what, I hooked that cable in last night..though from my Power Supply it is labeled "P2" not 12v,before I plugged that in,the computer wouldnt stay on,but afterwards..it does. I had no idea you had to plug that in,but after just looking around inside the computer case, I realized it wasent plugged in..looked aroudn the mobo for a second, plugged it in and it worked.

I still dont have any idea what this problem is,cause the computer itself turns on and stays stable, just I get no BIOS on the moniter, and I made sure the Video Card was securely plugged in,although..it is quite old and used, but it still works on the computer im using now : /

EDIT: Oh,and I didnt have any keyboard plugged in at all, just thought it would boot without one..could this be the reason? (Sorry I havent mentioned it before, never even thought about it untill mechBgon mentioned it)

Okay so far I have tried everything in this post and still cant get anything to show up on my moniter, does anyone know what this might be? Im just about to buy a new gfx card and moniter, and dont want to have this same problem with my new stuff 🙁

Could I have a bad motherboard possibly?

Does anyone out there know what's goin' on here please?
