seems to only happen sometimes. like after 4 hours of solid gaming.

my computer just turns off, like you hit the power switch. i turn it back on and its fine for another few hours of gaming.

i do hear a little bit of electronic wine when in 3d games, maybe the video card is putting too much load on the psu?

ive got 2x7800gtx256mb and a fortron 450w blue storm

I would recommend he try one of these to cure or troubleshoot his problem.

You should do a system check on your temps. I use everest which is good.

check the temps on your CPUs & see if your fans are working properly.

Then check your video card temps. If they are running higher than they should be. There may be dust clogging up the VPU fans.

Then check your PSU. See if the fan is blowing as hard as it should.

I had similar problems and it was cuz I had a dust problem in my radeon x800. The problem with my card is that the heatsink & fan were covered by a metal cover. When i opened it up, there this layer of dust that blocked the heatsink vents to the fan.

Also, my Antec 350W PSU was a piece of dung. The capacitors exploded and slimed everything in there... www.badcaps.com

PSU. Buy a SLI certified PSU. Seasonic... Antec... Fortron... Sparkle... PCPC... etc.

Is the "Automatically Restart" box checked in System Properties? If so, uncheck it.

I'm with the majority on here, heat or PSU. Gut reaction is heat, but 4 hours of gaming seems to long for the heat problem to come up, so likely PSU. You have a really good PSU, but you also have two high end video cards. I guess you could rule out a heat issue by opening the side of the case and having a big house fan blow inside the case.... noisy and somewhat of a hassle, esp. for 4 hours, but if the problem still happenes, then we can be fairly sure it is the PSU.

Like everyone said, heat or PSU. I'm thinking that system should have a better PSU (SLi cert would be a good idea...) and tell us about the cooling. CPU heatsink, NB, video card cooling, etc.

what i was thinking, it could be as simple as that, or as complicated as a PSU problem.

1) Tempertures
2) Power Supply

Having high temps you would have to clean, replace a fan, or get a new heatsink

If it's power supply you could buy a new one with maybe higher wattage or send that one back and get a new one. If you going to buy a new one I recommend the Seasonic S12 500W-600W.

Yeah, heat, PSU, or perhaps instability if you're OCing.

not oc'ing. typically in the past if it was a heat issue the system would reboot not just turn off.

the video cards dont seem to go over 57c, and the cpu has a scyth ninja on it.

the nb has the passive a8n sli premium cooler.

im running some heat tests now, prime95 and realtime hdr

Open the case and put a fan on the MB. Retest. If okay, then it's a heat issue. If you overclock, then back-off the CPU core speed by about 70MHz and retest.

Yeah, but is it helping? Your temps seem fine to me.

I think it may be your PSU.

Unfortunately, there is no way to really run a diagnostic test on it.

Try using another PSU.

ya i recorded the temps, and they stablized after 60mins to 44/34/67 so temps didnt seem to be the issue.

i decided sli was fun and all but just not worth the hassle, went back to my dfi board and single 7800gtx, and ran prime95 and realtime hdr for 15hrs last night without a problem.

single card should hold me over until the fall when the next greatest thing hits.

i could have tried another psu, but ~100 bucks for a nice seasonic would just keep digging the hole. this way i can rma the asus sli board and sell one of the gfx cards and buy a xbox360 or something and still have change left over hehe.
