Computer takes 4 minutes longer loading with a Nic!

I just got broadband internet and everything works. But when loading Windows 98 the computer takes about 4 minutes longer. If i remove the network card then the computer loads up normally(without thew 4 min pause.) Its a Realtek chipset on the Nic and i have got the latest drivers. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how do you fix it.

Thanks for any help,

Osmo

I believe its caused by the NIC looking for an IP address from the cable modem, do you know if your broadband (Cable or DSL?) is DHCP enabled?

Is it cable or DSL?
Sounds as if it is the nic card looking for an IP since removing the card cures it (there is no NIC to look/need an IP)
