i remember a long time ago - like 10 years ago - that someone placed a mobo/components inside a standard plastic bucket filled with some sort of gelly fluid that allowed the computer to function perfectly??

They are a lot more important than a PC will ever be.

There are commercial products out there now too but they are extremely expensive and the effectiveness is arguably not that great considering the thermal properties and viscosity of the oil leave a lot to be desired as a computer coolant. There are dielectric liquids like Fluorinert which are better thermal conductors then mineral oil but cost a lot.

There was also a site that tried Flourinert a while back. They found that their extreme low temperature aspirations were dashed by the fact that the Flourinert turned syrup like at the temps they were working with.

Thanks for the mention!

Yep, we've been building computers in aquariums filled with mineral oil for years now. We don't sell them, but you can buy them online (very expensive). We've recently come out with do-it-yourself kits.

I'm happy to answer any questions, as long is the question is not "Can you put fish in it?" 🙂

Can you put mob informants in it?

the Screen Savers used 3M's HFE (HydroFluoroEther) chilled by dry ice to immerse a whole computer, except for the ports, optical and hard drives.
