Hello,

I was hoping to get some help in setting up my newly acquired surround sound system, to my computer and TV.

I was hoping to do this all through my computer because I do not want to use the DVD Player that came with it, rather use my DVD drive and/or Netflicks on the net to watch movies.

Here is my setup:

ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe using onboard sound. (I know I will have to get a soundcard)

MTS 3200 This was given to my by a friend for free because the DVD player is broken.

and the Samsung T5054

I don't understand what I am needing to hook the speakers up to my computer because the DVD player on the MTS 3200 acts as a receiver.

Any and all help will be so greatly appreciated!

No wonder they were free, that's a set of white van speakers! Hope your friend didn't get taken for too much.

What does it have for audio inputs? The website doesn't give any details.

If the "receiver" has a digital coax input and your sound card (or the one you purchase) has a digital coax output, then that's what I would use for the audio connection. For the video connection just use a DVI-to-HDMI cable and set the resolution to 1360x768. I don't think computers can typically be set to 1366x768 resolution, so you'll likely have VERY small black lines on the left and right edges of the screen. It sounds like a fairly simple setup.

Yea, I am well aware of the quality. He did buy them though from radioshack or somewhere a long time ago. He moved and couldn't sell them so he just gave them to me.

Sorry I am not home at the moment to give more info, I will check the input and output when I get home.

It seems the DVD player was specifically made for this setup but I am sure that is not true.

All the the speakers connect through digital wires to the sub then the sub connects to the DVD player with inputs and outputs I do not yet know. Will update in t-minus 60.34 minutes.

Thanks guys.

Sounds like the sub has an amp for the speakers much like computer speaker sets.

If that is the case you just need to buy some cables to go from your sound card to the sub.

The first statement is true, but the second one might not be. Many computer speakers have some sort of control pod that controls the volume and settings and connects the sub/amp to the computer's sound card. In this case the DVD player might be acting as the control pod, and all connections might have to go through it in order to correctly be transferred to the sub and speakers.
