Computer still FREEZING after replacing cpu, mobo, vid card.

The freezing is like complete lock up. cant move mouse, sound stops, cant even ALT+CRTL+DEL. This is kinda how it will go....

be on my computer 8 hours, itll freeze, reboot, freeze after 5 minutes, reboot, freeze befor it even makes it to windows, reboot, freeze befor it even finishs listing the memory speed on the bios screen.

The computer is NOT overclocked, its using default fan with the AMD64 3000+ cpu. There is 1 fan on the inside of the case thats cooling off i guess just the inside.

After it happens a lot I can check tempeture quick, and its usually about 105f for the CPU and 98 for System (atleast thats what the bios reads).

Your all probably thinking RAM ! his ram is busted. Well, I just ran memtest and it went through fine, no errors at all.

Only thing left I can think of is HD, but is it possible for the HD to make the computer freeze like I listed above. And also WHY would it make it freeze, befor it even checked for the HD in the bios.

please, somone help me out, just feel like I wasted $425 on new parts that I didnt even need =/

PS: Power supply has been replaced also.

take everything else out accept cpu,psu,1 stick of ram, hdd, and mobo (leave video card in too if you dont have integrated) and see if it boots. post your entire system here, too.

Ok. System has been off for awhile, so its not freezing up at this exact moment, but once it starts freezing agian, ill take 1 stick out and test. Anyways, below is the exact stuff in my system...

RAM: (2) DDRAM 512MB|PC-3200 DDR400 -SAMSUNG - OEM
HD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JB 80GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor
MOBO: EPoX EP-9NPAJ Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
VID CARD: eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
PSU: Dont have exact model, but its 350w Antec one that came with a newer antec case.

EDIT 1:
the CPU, MOBO and VID CARD maybe have like 6hours of use on em (got em today) The powersupply im pretty sure isnt it because, my old one was doing the SAME thing. And this PSU works fine in my 2nd computer

also make sure everthing is connected in tightly and all drivers are updated if you can do that before it freezes, or does it freeze as soon as it's on? tried safemode?

Im sure its all plugged in tight. Im going to try and type out EXACTLY how it freezes in order.

5 days ago (with old vid card, mobo, cpu)
playing World of Warcraft and it freezes
I reboot and it freezes maybe 30 minutes later
Reboot and next day it freezes later that night.
From then on, it was freezing every 5 minutes.

Today:
instal new parts at 10:30am
8:00pm it freezes while playing World of Warcraft.
8:05pm it freezes while im just sitting here reading anandtech for a fix.
8:05:30 it freezes while loading windows
8:06 it freezes while loading the BIOS
8:06 it freezes right after the part in the bios where its about to list the IDE stuff connected.
9:00 I boot it up, run memtest for a few hours, eat.
12:13 What im typing right now, hasnt frozen in like 2-3hours, but maybe its because it was off awhile befor this?

EDIT: wafflesandsyrup, im refreshing this thread every 30 seconds, so expect a quick response =) I wanna get a solution befor it goes out again.

EDIT 2: Vid card drivers up to date, nforce ones are from mobo CD, but downloading latest ones now. Is there any special apps I can use to check my HD. Ive used the basic WD one on their site and it says its fine.

Temps in bios say 103-105 for CPU and 98 for SYSTEM (wahtever that one means)

Overclocking: nope, never

Reset cmos: Nope because the mobo is brand new, so its got the default cmos settings.

if its celsius, thats a big problem. make sure the cpu has good contact with the heatsink and that you put enough paste on it (paper thin covering the cpu).

1) are you giving the RAM enough voltage to make it happy? Try 2.7 volts if you haven't yet. Memtest is a good start but it doesn't load up the system with power demands on the video card, drives, etc like actual usage does. Anyway, easily tested 🙂

2) you got your ATX12V cable plugged in, correct? 😱

3) if you have to try replacing something else, try replacing the power supply next, with a quality brand in more of the 450W area.

2) you got your ATX12V cable plugged in, correct?

I didnt even plug that in, how important is that? =X

Do you think just that could cause this problem?

EDIT: Its been on for awhile now, so I got a few things to try once it starts messing up. Im going to test each stick of RAM. If that doesnt solve it, im going to try the raising the voltage to RAM, and ofcourse plugging in the 12v cord

Yeah, go ahead and plug in that one, it's very important. Running without it forces your mobo to pull all its 12V power through a single wire in the main ATX cable. And both your CPU and video card lean on the 12V line for their power.

You might unplug your main ATX cable and see if its 12V connector is browned/charred, in fact.

This mobo has only been hooked up to it since like 10:30am this morning, I hope its not burned yet!!

right now im running the WD Extended HD scan program. its got 15 minutes left, soon as its done ill shut down and plug that chord in !

(btw, is that chord the same thing as having the new 24 pin plug for the new nforce 4 boards?

I would shut down NOW. No, the 24-pin main plug has an additional 4 pins but they are not the same as this ATX12V plug. Any system that uses a 24-pin main plug will also demand the ATX12V as well.

Yes, VERY important to plug that thing in... it could explain why the PSU worked flawlessly in another system, yet struggles or causes freezes in this one.

Umm yeah, that 4pin 12v connector is pretty important, if you dont' have it plugged in that could certainly cause your problems..no, it's not the same as the extra 4 pins on a 24pin connector, those motherboards also use the 4pin 12v connector as well, actualy my new one has 4 power connectors, 24pin, 4pin atx, 4pin molex, 4pin floppy. They are there for a reason, to make sure the components are getting proper voltage..

Ok guys, I just hooked it up. If you guys check back on this thread tommarow or later tonight, ill try to update it and let ya know if it still freezes or whats going on.

Appreciate you all helping with fast replies ! =)

I would be willing to bet that once you stick that plug into the motherboard, that you will not be having the problems you described.

Did you NOT read the instruction manual for the motherboard BEFORE you put this system together. NEVER try to put a new system together without FIRST reading thru the manuals that came with ALL of your hardware & software. Even if you have built systems before, how do you know that something NEW has not come along since the last time you built a system.

Good computing.
