Computer starts again after powerdown

My newly-assembled AMD64 computer behaves a tad trange. I'm running WindowsXP Corp. SP2. When I shut it down, it shuts down as it should, but then sometimes it starts up again by itself. Mainly after a few seconds, but sometimes longer. I have also experienced problems when I want to turn on my computer, as the power-button seems to not function. Then I have to shut the power of on my PSU, and then turn it on again, and then maybe it works. Any ideas ? Mainboard, CPU, Memory, Casing ?

What kind of PUS? Could be a BIOS setting too.

This is easy to fix. Look for "power management" in the BIOS. There are some settings regarding the function of the power/reset buttons. There should also be an option that reads something like "restore state after AC power loss." Set that option to "off". That should do it

It's an Antec "standard" PSU that comes with the Antec Sonata. 380W.

It' s allready off. Any other ideas ? Can it be som sort of problem with my Antec case ?

make sure wake on lan is off. Or wake on anything. FOr having trouble turning it on, I dont know.

I just "timed it". It takes anywhere from 2 to several minutes, but then it starts by it self.

Sounds like a bad PSU. Try contacting Antec about it. I'm sure they'd be happy to send you a replacement.

There were a lot of complaints of strange happenings with Antec PSU's and the Neo2 Platinum board. I had some my self. One common thing was that it would start up as soon as you plugged in the PSU without ever touching the case power button. Many people had this exact same problem.
I RMA'd my MB and then installed the new one. As soon as I plugged in the PSU, it started up. I immediately shut it down with the case button, and haven't had any problems since.
My conclusion: There is somethng wierd going on with MSI and Antec cases and/or PSU's, but my guess is that it's a MSI problem. I would definitley check the MSI forums and see if others are having similar issues. Also, contact Antec and see if they have any answers. Good luck, and keep us posted on any fixes you find. This could be very useful to others.

There seems to be a good chance that you are right. I have found a few with similar Antec-MSI problems. I think I will return my MSI-board and get an Asus instead. I will keep you posted on what happens. Thanks !

Yea, I'm not sure exactly what is going on, but it seems there are just too many people having problems with MSI/Antec combos to be pure coinidence.
I've got mine working now, but just realize it could be something with the case wiring since it is Antec also. Do you have the front USB's currently connected?

True. But I'd rather exchange my MSI-board vs. my beloved Antec Sonata

I've tried both with and without the front-panel USB/Firewire/Audio connected. It makes no difference.
