Computer Speakers under $300?

Looking around at computer speakers under $300... I saw the Z680's and Klipsch 5.1 nice looking setup. The klipsch was $220 at newegg but the reviews were pretty bad especially about a hiss the entire time.

The Z680's are what seem to be the best choice but I need opinions on what else to buy.

Also, my motherboard has optical out headers and an optical out connection near the other audio inputs/outputs on the back which isn't the digital optical out or something. Its a round female connector. Is this some analog optical out or something?

Since the motherboard has header for the digital optical out, could I just buy something to fit in a pci slot connected to the header to give out optical? The mobo didn't come with it...

EDIT: I can't really participate in this thread since I'm using a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers connected to a Realistic stereo receiver built before 1980. I like the way it sounds though!

Hey, speakers are a peripheral! I found the Z680s to hiss too much for my preference. The Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 550D are a great deal on ebay. There are several sales going for $225 + s/h.
