computer shutting down

I just built a new computer and everything went great for about a month, but starting last night after I turn it on it will stay on about 3-5 mins and then shut down. Then if you try to reboot it won't come on and will give you code that you need to reset the CPU. Let it set a couple of mins and then it will boor up fine, but will shut back down in 3-5 mins. I have tried a couple of things; I did reset the CPU and reapllied thermal paste, I cleared the CMOS, I reset all the cards, repluged all the Molex connectors, and tried different wall outlets. Does anyone have any guesses?

Is your cpu fan working properly? As well as your video card? Sounds like something is overheating. Go into your bios and view the various temps, hopefully you will see whats wrong.

hate to say it but your CPU might be damaged. if you have a spare cpu that works you could swap it out to see if it is a cpu problem.

fan works great, temp is OK, and the video card works great. I don't have a CPU lying around, but maybe I can work something out with a friend.

Thanks

When I was first building my system back in 2000 with a Socket 370 Pentium III 550E on a generic slotket adapter to a Slot 1 motherboard, I got those lockups with the message all the time. I replaced the cheap slotket with a good brand MSI one and the problem went away.
