58C isn't the end of the world. It's higher than some people prefer, but it's well within the tolerance of the processor.

No CPU overheat tends to Lock the machine. Check the safety setting in the Bios to see what the cut off is. Last I checked the Point of CPU instability for an Athlon is 65C or at least when i test my old 1.2 GHZ by pulling out the CPU fan it would always lock or screw up at 65C+.

I'm pretty sure I'm having the same problem. Could dust in the processor fan have to do with the overheating? I've had the same A-XP processor for the past 3 years, and it just started doing that this summer.

I assume removing the dust would help? Any other ideas, such as a a new fan or anything else?

Actually, my comp shuts itself down even when I play Warcraft 3 now, whereas it didnt come close to that 2 years ago

My computer was randomly restarting. My 1700+ was running at 60C. I adjusted the heatsink, and it now runs at 40ish and hasn't had any restarts since.
