Here is my specs
XP 1800+
MSI Nforce2 MB
Gforce 4 440MX
512 megs Kingston DDR 333

this system is a few months old. As of yesterday I started to have this problem. The monitor will randomly click off, like when they go into power saving mode. I have that disabled. The actually PC doesn't beep, it doesn't reboot, and it doesn't shut down. I am thinking it must be something with my PSU. It's a ummmm "Powerup" I believe 350 watts. I know it's not the best brand, but I've had good luck with them in the past. I don't think it's a over heat issue. Because I can play SOFII with no problems. The problem can happen when the system is basically idle.

Besides PSU, does anyone have a suggestion what else it could be?

Windows isn't beeping, I get no BSOD, and aside from the monitor "clicking" nothing else seems to be happening wrong.

very confused here :)

Well, I have figured out the problem (I'm almost sure) but have no idea how to fix it.

reinstalled XP Pro, not clean did the "upgrade" thing.

I have narrowed the problem down to it only seems to happen when I disconnect from the net.

I tried this 4 times and each time I hit disconnect, sure enough in a few seconds my monitor clicks and I have to do a hard reboot.

I'm using my cell phone as a wireless modem, with a USB cable to connect it to my PC. I have no idea if the phone has anything to do with this problem. I haven't tried removing and re-adding the network stuff. But, this is a recent problem (last few days) and I have been connecting to the net the same for 2 months. I did a "system restore" to a date I knew it was good, same thing. Anyone have ANY idea what could be causing a DUN to uNF a computer to where you have to reboot? this is madness...

thanks

BUMP!

last night when I disconnected, I got a BSOD with the "IRQL_" err don't remembe the rest "is less then" or something. I have gotten that in the past many times with different sound cards and video cards. but this is when I drop a DUN connection.

ANY IDEAS? I am baffled...

have you recently installed some program?

i recently installed some fax program into some of our systems and get a bsod right after the logon screen pops up. I'm sure its a software issue because after I uninstalled it, the bsod went away.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL stop errors can be driver problems. You could check for a WHQL driver.
If you go to the event viewer in administrative tools, there will be an stop error message logged under applications that could give more clues.

I've only gotten the BSOD 2 times (out of like 20) so I'm not sure. I connected the modem with HyperTerminal and when I disconnected nothing happened. So, I've narrowed it down to something wrong with DUN. I tried to use the Sprint Dialer, but I can't get the stupid thing to detect my modem!

I will check the event viewer. good idea man thanks :)
