Ok, so i have a DFI lan party NF2 ultra rev a and an AMD barton XP 3000 + with 400 FSB. I have had no probs with it, and when i recently reconfiged some stuff and reset my CMOS, the BIOS did not detect my CPU and was running it at 200 FSB rather than 400. I went to DFIs site and dled a bios flafh that is supposed to work with my CPU. It was the file 6161bd49.bin . I flashed the BIOS fine but now when the computer turns on, after like 5 secs it just shuts down, and the power light in the front of the case remains on. I dont know if that bios is running the CPU too hot or not because theres not enough time to look at the PC health info to see what temps its at. Do you have any ideas how i can get my CPU recognized and running at the full speeds? Thanks

It sounds to me like your BIOS is hosed. You will probably need to either RMA or order a BIOS and replace it yourself.

Was the new .bin file from the manufacturer? Some of the "other" .bin files can be buggy sometimes. Not that manufactures get it right all the time either. ;) I would try re-flashing with the old .bin that worked. And trouble shoot from there.
Did you clear the BIOS after flashing?

FYI, that's normal. After clearing the CMOS, you should've simply gone into the BIOS, entered the Genie BIOS Setting sub-menu, and set the CPU Clock Setting to the intended speed again.

I was gonna do that, but I assumed it made mroe sense for the BIOS to determine my CPUs speed

ok, so if im gonna set this manually, what would the settings be in the geine BIOS settings for my CPU, because i dont really understand what each of them mean/do

Set the CPU Clock Setting to 200MHz and set the DDR DRAM Clock to 200MHz (or if it uses percentages, lock it to 100%, or use "Sync" if it has that listed... three ways of saying the same thing). 200MHz is DDR400, which is the intended speed for your CPU. You can leave the multiplier on Auto, and now your CPU should come up as a 3000+ at POST.

For the DRAM Voltage Control, use at least 2.6 volts.

That ought to be a good starting point.

I was under the understanding that his computer refused to post. Clear your CMOS before assuming anything is hosed. :)

Me too, but since he asked... :) Maybe he was trying to set the CPU Clock Setting to 400MHz! DDR800, ohhh yeah! :D

Before i tried setting the MHz to 200 but i didn change the DDR Dram clock to 200, and the comp shut down in 5 secs. I just dont understand why this BIOS i get from the website doesnt work now when it did beforE!

If you removed the heatsink anywhere along the way, check to ensure that it's installed the right way with a fresh application of high-quality thermal grease. Bad thermal conductivity between the CPU core and the heatsink base for any reason could cause the CPU to overheat and call for a shutdown.

i did just remove the CPU and put on a new layer of thermal paste, but i know the Heatsink is on correctly, cause im getting temps around 30 C when idle.

If this board is anything like mine & i think it is,the only way to get 200fsb (100mhz) is by moving a jumper next to the northbridge.

Did you by mistake move that jumper?

there are a few jumpers there, but I know i didnt change any of them, all i did was take out the CPU and re apply thermal paste.,

just make sure J29 is on because when it's off it will run at 100mhz.

THe only options i had was to set the CPU at 200 MHz, then the DDR Ram only had ratios, would it then be a 1:1 ratio, 1:2 or 2:1? And when i ddi 1:1 It shut down while loading windows, and i had to clear the CMOS again

You want 1:1. And since you did take the heatsink off, check my link above to ensure you got it reinstalled correctly :)

I dont understand how it couldve been installed incorrectly, i mean, it only goes on one way, and theres writing on it that would be upside down if it went the other way.

No, it can be rotated 180 degrees and you wouldn't even know it unless you had installed heatsinks properly in the past.

I just realized what may be the problem here. Is your memory rated at PC3200? If it's not, then that's the issue. Also, relax your memory timings and increase memory voltage slightly. Since it crashed while loading windows it's a sign that something is overclocked and unstable. In this case it sounds like your memory. What does the BIOS list the CPU as when it posts?

I finally remembered that you are also running with a temporary power supply due to the problems with your sleeved one... is that still in there? What brand, model and wattage is it? You got it an ATX12V cable adapter? Maybe it just can't provide the power needed for the CPU at its full speed. And if you don't have the ATX12V hooked up, then that's Not Good. :Q

No, i got a new 500W Aspire PSU and the 12v is good and connected, so i dont think that is it.
