computer "shuts down"

I'm really not good at troubleshooting computer problems so I came here looking for help!

The Problem:

Starting a few days ago my computer has occasionally (actually once a day roughly) "stopped" for a lack of better description. The screen goes blank but the computer itself keeps running but I'm forced to reboot it. I've been playing Diablo 3 whenever it did this, maybe that's something to do with it ? (I've hardly been using my computer for anything else though)

General Information:
CPU: core i5 2500k (baseclock)
Motherboard: asus z68 v-pro
Graphics Card: msi 7870
Power Supply: corsair tx 650 watt
Operating System: win 7

It could be a thermal lock up. When's the last time you opened your case and blew out the accumumlated dust? Be sure to check between the blades of the heatsink, and blow out the power supply, too.

Next time it happens, if you don't have any software that monitors your temps, reboot, go into the CMOS, and check the temps under "System Health." If you don't have the alarm set, get some info on what's typical for your CPU, and set it to sound a little above that temp.

Hope that helps. 🙂

Since you mention baseclock in your system description, I presume you are overclocking? If so, you might try dropping back down to standard clocking to see if it makes a difference.

Also, as Diablo 3 is a brand new game, you might want to try updating your video drivers.
