Hi

I have just got a new motherboard (ASrock 945GCM-S) and when I now turn on the computer it shutdown after 1-1.5 minutes of running. After that you can only get it to work for a few seconds unless you wait for 2-3 hours and after that you can run in for 1-1.5 minutes again. I have been able to go into BIOS and look at the temperature readings and its nothing unusual, 25-30 degree celcius for CPU and MB when it shutdown. I have also removed all other components from the computer and only have the PSU (Qtec 350, works in another computer) and CPU (tried both a P4 3Ghz and a Celeron 2.53 Ghz, both work in other computers). Anyone seen this problem before and can point to a source?

Viktor,

I'm a fine one to talk since I also have a mysterious shutdown problem, but your description says your problem is assuredly thermal -- the having to wait means something is having to cool down. The obvious candidates are the CPU -- which you say you have been able to check -- the power supply and less likely the northbridge chipset. If your motherboard has one. My first thought would be that the CPU cooler has lost its seating to the CPU -- that can happen -- and that you should remove it, apply a new film of artic silver and then reseat it. Pretty easy to do and removes that possibility if it doesn't work. Do all fans turn on when the machine is first turned on? I don't know your set up, but rarely a fan will turn on for a moment and then stop so watch that all are running. Do you have another power supply you can swap in? 350 watts sounds like too low a power reserve so you may simply be overloading it.

Good luck
