I built my own system

AMD 2100+
1 gig pc2700 ram 4x 256 512 was added abbout a month ago
adaptec 29160n scsi controller
3 18 gig cheetah drives
1 80 gig ide drive
1 120gig IDE drive
Geforce ti4400 video card
Gigabyte 7vrxp motherboard
also 8 fans for cooling ....the temp is hovering around 52 c

the problem is that my comp is constantly crashing .....I have updated all of the drivers and Bios's also the programs are crashing and giving me the "do you want to send an error report " it happens with just opening a media file or internet explorer ...
I don't know what to do .. I also tried re-inmstalling WinXP

problem might be the temp... try getting it to a lower heat level... like... 45c, my computer locks up when it gets any higher than that, like 48c or more
(get an sku800 thermaltake heatsink...its amazing) i have a 2500+ running at 3200+ speeds at 42c right now. so it might possibly be heat that can cause the crashes...also, try reinstalling windows if that doesn't work on another harddrive since you have 5 to choose from, there might be a problem with one of those.

Yeah i'd say it was the temp as well. Open the comp up and clean out all the fans and remove the dust. If you want to, i'd suggest getting some thermal adhesive and applying it to the proccessor core after removing the old glue.

The problem could also be a virus (maybe)? Run a virus scan and see if anything shows up.

Good Luck

was it crashing before you added the newest RAM ? if so take it out and see if it's better. it looks like you have some heavy power usage too. do you have a GOOD (namebrand) power supply ? sure it's big enough ? look at all the info for your parts (lables and web sites) and add up how much you need. i'm guessing 400w-450w at least.
also check your CPU cooler. you might of buped it when you installed the new ram .
also you can strip the comp down to the basics. vid card , chip w\cooler , 1 stick of memory , and the hard drive. no CD-ROM's or anything else.
fire it up and hammer it for awhile . it crash ? swap the memory out for another piece , just make sure you remove the first one. get through all the memory and it's still crashing ? try another slot.
just make one change at a time untill you get everything back in with no problems or you find whats doing it.

if it crashes with just the minimum parts , one of them might be bad. do you have another comp you can swap the parts into (one at a time ) to test ?
let us know how this goes
good luck

You have a huge draw on the 12v rail with all of the hds and fans. My first guess is that the psu is not up to snuff. You might try disconnecting the scsi drives and see if the problem goes away. If it does, it is the psu. I would suggest the Antec Tru 480 as it has dedicated rails. If it is not the psu, the board may be having trouble using 4 sticks of ram. Some mobos have very specific requirements to use 4 sticks.

I dont think its the temp due to the fact that it sometimes happens the second I turn my comp on.... I also have the best thermaltake heatsink and fan...(or at least it was when I got it 6 months ago paid like $60) as far as the power supply I have a antec true 400... It started happening a bit when I installed the new ram...But I screwed up before ...I have 2 X 256 then added 1X 512 . not 4X256 like i said before.... I removed the 512 stick and it got 10x worse so I removed the 2 256 chips and it might be more stable...at least I was able to write this ......I am hoping I may be on to something by removing the 2 256 chips ...might be a bad stick of ram...But I know its not the temp or power... hmmmmmm we'll see...
