Computer runs slow on Vista.

I have 2gb of Ram which is fine with XP, but on vista things juggle around slowly when theres alot going on.

Im not sure if its my CPU or RAM. I came from an e8400 @ 4ghz with no problems to a e2180@3ghz

Im not sure how VISTA task manager is used, but here is mine. It says i have 2mb free. Is this number always low on vista based on how vista cache memory or do i need more ram?

My computer is clean of any viruses or spyware. I do have a crap load of stuff open, but i also have the same amount in XP with no problems.

To answer this thread in 1 word: Is it ram or the cpu?

firefox. Keeps the cpu @ 30-40%, but that shouldn't be a problem with both cores i thought.

Post a a screen shot of its output (if its mostly red, you have a driver bug to track down)

Ok weird, I expected to see more in the red. You have plenty of memory (dont let the 2 meg free fool you, the cache is just using the extra, its still available for applications). What symptoms are you seeing, what 'feels' slow to you?

Hehe, its hard to describe. But im tying here sometimes the words take alittle bit to jump onto the screen. Im guessing thats because of firefox memory using my cpu and ram alot. I dont have alot of extensions.

Maybe im just use the snappyness of XP. I mean the computer is fast, but sometimes it slows down.

I guess i can reboot more often and restart firefox often to help this problem.

That doesnt sound right. Can you leave the DPC program running and see if you notice a corrolation between the slow typing speed and higher latency when it occurs?

Hmm, well the typing problem with away after a reboot. Im running defrag now to speed things up just alittle.

I don't think 2 gigs of ram is fine for Vista especially if you "have a crap load of stuff open"

Hmm...ive been having a problem with Firefox lately also, but I'm thinking its Flash related. I recently upgraded to the new Flash player and the processor can even peg out on Flash ad intensive pages.

He's fine with almost 800meg free in the cases where he's showing an issue.

why not? if you have lots of pages open and lots of free memory, firefox will keep previous pages in RAM, not on the disk. Welcome to 2008.

My firefox virtual-memory usage ranges from between 1.3GB to 2.0GB. It crashes when it gets close to 2.0GB, unfortunately.
