Computer restarts when shut down button is pressed

Control panel -> administrative tools -> event viewer.

It sounds like a driver or PSU issue. Also it can't hurt to update your BIOS too.
 
look for errors. your machine may be set up to restart when it crashes, and it may be crashing while shutting down.
 
but i don't know what to look for in the event viewer...

Look for critical erros (red 'x') under the System and Security tabs. It may give you some clue as to what is happening.
