Computer restarts when inserting disc

Hello everyone. Basically, almost every time I insert a disc into my CD drive, my computer restarts. Also, when attempting to boot from a disc, the computer restarts as well, and it restarts non-stop until I remove the disc.

Any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried plugging the drive into a different sata or IDE port?

Updating drivers for your drive?

Trying a different optical drive?

What does it show in device manager under your drive?

I can try that soon.

Downloading Now.

I don't have another available.

What does it show in device manager under your drive?

It says "HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20 ATA Device"

Edit: The driver won't download.

Completely remove that optical drive. It must have a short in it somewhere. You may be able to boot your computer again with the drive outta there. I don't see this as a software or driver problem - it is a hardware problem with that drive.

Start by pulling the Molex power connector and also the data cable. Then see if you can boot.
