I keep having my computer restart itself completely randomly. It just switches off instantly and then starts back up.

It came up saying, Windows has recovered from a serious error.

When I clicked Send Error Report it came up with the Microsoft Error web page and it said 'This error was caused by a Device Driver'

I try formating and reinstalling windows but the pc is still restarting randomly

i also don't think its an overheating problem because my room is not hot at all.

i'm trying to do a memory test, but the pc is restarting randomly and i can't finish the test.

computer specs:
winxp pro
MOBO: ASUSTek - A7N8X2.0
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHZ
RAM: 1 Gb
Graphics Card: ATi Radeon All-In-Wonder 9800
Hard Disk: 2 x 150 Gb
PSU: MESH - 360 W

plz help me :)

Hi. Have you checked your motherboard for bubbled and/or leaking capacitors? Your symptoms sound suspiciously like what I've been seeing on the job. Check the capacitors around the processor especially, if the tops of the capacitors are not flat, that may be your problem.

The first thing I would try would be another power supply.

How long has it been doing this ? Just started or ever since you had it ?

Windows is explicitly telling you you have a problem with a device driver, so that would suggest starting to address the problem by looking at your device drivers.

You reinstalled the OS, but if you installed the same device drivers (or the same versions) then the problem will come back exactly as before.

So, do all the driver updates you can on all of your hardware - make sure you're running the latest driver for _everything_, including the BIOS. Do ALL Windows updates - critical and non-critical.

If the problem continues, send me the most recent memory dumps created AFTER you did all those updates, found in c:\windows\minidumps.

Also send me the .cab file generated after running MPSReports. (See my .sig.)

Let us know how it goes.

Have you used to Pc Probe program from ASUS to check you temperatures, fan speeds, etc. ?

At what point after reinstalling Windows does the error begin ? If it is before you have installed any updates to the operating system, drivers, etc., then it is probably hardware problem.
