For good friends, I just do small cash, like $20.
For someone I don't know... depending on how annoying they are.. $50+

That wasn't my point. My point is the other poster is setting sail for fail if he thinks a copy of the user profiles is all that's needed to set up a new machine.

That thinking is why I am successful in what I do usually taking on machines dicked up by kids.
True, I'd grab both, but I'm just sayin some saves go there..

What was this thread about again? lol

jesus people are cheap here.

i myself in my spare time do formats for $100 flat rate. a shop i help out at(know the owner) he charges $120.

if she's a nice person and won't take advantage of you, $60 sounds good. if not, at least $80.

I charge $40 flatrate for malware cleans (takes me about 2+ hours) and $50 for an OS reinstall. Yea, its very low compared to the going rate, but it is a side job. I don't advertise at all, I work on co-worker's PC exclusively.

I thought about advertising via CL with a bit higher rates, but I'm afraid it would burn me out in a few months time as well. Doing 2 PCs over a weekend kills any free time for family or PC gaming time that I'd had before doing this.

Sounds about right.

Charging $30 for 2 hours of skilled labor is a joke, don't sell yourself short.

Definitely.

$75 is fair for that, which would be probably a couple hundred less than geeksquad, who not only charges stratospheric prices, but also nickels and dimes every step of the way (separate charges for the OS install, application install, etc).

That said, she looks young (not wealthy?), and I try to adapt my charges based on my client's ability to pay. I have clients that make 7 figures or more, and I charge them fair industry standard rates for outstanding service. I also make the same services available for much less to those in need who are paycheck-to-paycheck types. I find that in general, this is very helpful, and people tend to return favors enough of the time to make it worthwhile.

Yeah, same here. If a friend with no/little money needs help I'll do it for free or realy cheap.

OP, definitely go for dinner if you are both single. Otherwise $50

I generally charge $15 per actual hour of work (I don't charge for the two hours it's patching while I'm playing video games elsewhere). If it was something difficult I'd charge more, but you're talking about basic monkey work there.

I'd say $40.

You don't want to do it for free even if you advertise this as being the only time you'll ever do it for free and never again. That leaves room for more of those, "one time only" deals, and she might get her friends computer and she'll want you to fix that, etc.

I'm tellin' yah... don't get stuck with doing it for free. If she has a problem then tell her either she has to pay or you can't do it.

I swear, this generation feels so fucking entitled.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO SHIT FOR MONEY?! FUCK

THE PREVIOUS GENERATION WOULD NEVER CHARGE, and would NEVER dress like a slut like that girl.

Total tramp stampin', 12 year old baby pumpin', sexually adventurous, slutbag atheist muslim LIBERAL HIPPY!

$20; you didnt even turn a screw.

LOL..because that's what makes it work. If that is the case a laptop build should result in me charging exponentially more than a reformat.

Even if I just had to sit in a box and twiddle my thumbs, anything that takes my time away from doing other things is going to cost money, and more than ~$8 an hour (guessing at less than 2.5 hrs work on a wipe and setup)

Seriously man, survey takers pay more than that time/money wise.
