Hi, it seems that my alternate computer (besides my macbook pro) has had enough and it's really begging for an upgrade (there's not much I can save from it I believe).
The computer as it is now is composed of a pretty nice chieftec case, amd 3800 x2 (s.939), asus a8v, geforce 5500 silent (my 6600gt died), some ATA disks and opticals, a 20" acer and a cheap standard 450w PSU.
I'd like to know if this September will be a good time to upgrade taking into account the new technologies that are scheduled after that, since even though I have to tilt the case to start the computer it could really last a little bit more.
The hardware that I've been looking at if I were to buy right now is Abit IX38-quadGT, Intel core 2 quad 9300, Sapphire HD4850 Toxic, Corsair 4GB ddr2-800 kit, Corsair CMPSU-650TX and creative x-fi xtreme music. I intended to reutilize the hard disks, but them being ata might be a problem. I don't initially intend to do any overclocking, but some parts that could improve the solution's cooling and silence level will be taken into account.
If it were now a good moment to upgrade I'd like to receive advice regarding the convenience of getting P35, P45, x48 over what I have chosen (and the reasoning behind it). Any other proposal will be gladly heard and appreciated
The tasks it must perform are developing, compiling, hosting servers, virtualize systems, video editing and some good gaming (I might even have a partition with windows
).
Thank you.
PS: I live in Spain so prices and availability might be different.
PS2: The computer will work on Linux 90% of the time, so chip support would be worth noting.
PS3: The budget is 800? approx.
