Computer Reboots if i go to 333x9 (e4400)

Current Specs:

MSI P35 Neo2-FR, Bios 1.5
Intel E4400, 270x10 = 2.7 ghz (35% OC), 1.325 vcore
4x1 gb Corsair XMS2 5-5-5-12, 810 mhz (1.5x multi) 1.9v
XFX 8800GTS 320mb, factory overclocked 580mhz core.
Corsair HX520, 520w PSU
2x 160gb Hitachi SATA2 HDD's, in raid0.
Antec Solo case.


it runs stable at this overclock. completes 3dmark 06 with a score of 9930.



when i tried upping the FSB to 333, and dropping the CPU multi to x9. I then upped the vcore to 1.3875. it did this.

i started the comp, it booted to windows just fine. then i opened 3dmark, and made it about halfway through the first test (return to proxycon) to the point where the big tank falls on the dude...and it crashed the system and rebooted. no error codes, no nothing.


what i am wondering is... why did it do this? my PSU is easily plenty of power for this, and CPUZ doesnt show voltages to be particularly far off the mark. the computer's temperatures are just fine.

As for what temps...

the CPU idle is in the 38 degree range. load is mid 50's.

overclocked, the CPU idle went to 40 degrees. i dont know what load went to.

i want my 50% overclock! >_<

It did it because your motherboard can't run 4 sticks of RAM at that high of a speed. If you want to use the 8x or 9x multiplier, you'll have to lower your RAM multiplier.

uh, when i did the OC i dropped my ram multiplier to 1.2. ram ran at 799 mhz...about 800 mhz, which is what it was designed for.

You were still at 1.9 vDIMM when you went to 9x333 and 1:1.2 divider correct? Try raising that one notch...1.95v or 2.0v (I'm not familiar with your bios) and retest. If it still fails, raise NB voltage (vMCH) one notch too (but only after you've failed with vDIMM set to at least 2.0v).

Make a floppy or CD with memtest86 v1.70. It's a great utility that runs right after POST. If you have RAM errors there, you can exit/reboot and make adjustments in Bios then re-test again...all without having to boot to windows.

FWIW, 3GHz is where my E4400 started needing a little more Vcore. Try bumping Vcore up a notch and retesting.

at the moment i'm thinking of cracking open the system, and changing those useless jumpers on the mobo to 333 mhz.
