Computer reboots by itself

My computer reboots itself when I'm in the middle of doing something. For example, I was surfing the net and my computer just reboot itself. Anyone know what is going on and anyone has this problem?

Give us some information or we won't know what's going on.
Did it just happen by itself? - Maybe virus?
Did it happen after you install some software or drivers? -maybe software or drivers bug...
Did it happen after u install a hardware? if so what? - hardware conflict/incompatibility?
Does it just happen while you're online? -maybe your modem
does it happen while you play sound? - sound card?
etc...

We can't make a prediction without enough information.

Could it possibly be that you've set it somehow to do that when your processor reaches a certain temperature? I forget which motherboard BIOS it was but you could set it to automatically reboot or shut down when you hit a certain temp.

But other than that, what the previous poster said...more info.

I have a 1.4ghz athlon w/ ECS K7S5A. 40gb WD. SBL! MP3 5.1. 512 mb ram ddr crucial, geforce 2 gts, Future power 400 watt. I think this is a mobo issue. It's not a virus issue because I have format and install the os twice and it still does that. It's not software because I just install a new os so the hdd is pretty new. Yea, it happen when i'm online. My processor is idle around 42 and max is 48.

The problem is the DDR voltage line - check the voltage in MBprobe and post it - I bet its lower than 3.30. Every now and then the DDR does not get sufficient juice and reboots all by itself. In fact check all the voltage lines since it appears the ECS board did an average job with voltage regulation.

Window me. That could be the problem, but I just do a fresh clean install of Win Me. Is Win ME that buggy? I guess I should install Win Xp.

Check up on your power supply. Futurepower supplies are REALLY unforgiving with shortages or spikes in power from your outlet. If it flickers for just a moment, the power to your computer will be interrupted, flush the RAM and cause the computer to crash/reboot. I had this problem until I got an Antec. Check it out...I hope this helps. A UPS might fix it for you. Staples recently had those APC units for free after MIR. I don't know if they're still around tho...I think it was a weekly thing.

yea happened to me to
found out the problem was there was a cdrw disk in my drive that caused it.
incd has some bugs

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this board has an option to boot, reboot or shutoff with a key combination on the keyboard.... maybe this is causing the reboot.

Regards... TFD

I suffered reboots every time I went on line until I moved my modem to a different pci slot. Don't ask me why, but it worked...
