I seem to have major problem with my computer randomly rebooting. It is running Winxp and the spec are on my computer page. I bought a Apc ups because i thought it was a mains power problem it fixed the problem a little bit. It use to reboot at least 8 to 10 times a day all by its self but no with the ups it only does it about four times a day but i have been getting random lockups as well now. I rang APC and they think it is not a ups problem as when you trun off the mains the computer keeps going no worries. We disconnected the usb cable from it to the computer and no change.
And it even was rebooting on and during reinstall of windows!!
What next besides shooting my self in the foot??????????

Sounds like a bad PSU to me, try getting another one, preferably at least 300 watts and on AMD's approved list.

/edit also check to make sure that all of the connections are tight first.

I have a 300 codgen and they are on the amd approved list. Is there any way to test or monitor the PSU to see if it is have heart failure at all? Maybe some monitoring software or something.

I'd reseat the memory and all cards to make sure there isn't a connection problem somewhere for starters.

After that, do you know which codegen you have? The 300 watter is only approved up to an Athlon 1100, the 350 watter is approved all the way up. If it's not a connection problem, powersupply would be my 2nd vote.

I pulled the whole thing apart and put it back together. no change. i did notice that the fan on my mother board chipset does not all ways spin thought maybe this is it????????? But there is highflow 12cm fan in the side case directly above this spot. So that would not be it right?

I think the fans on the chipsets aren't really needed, they do help, but I don't think failure would cause a lockup. I would tkae out everything but the video card and then see if it does it.

I had the same problem. My PC would randonmly reboot. It found out it was a bad nic card. I would barely touch the cat5 cable and it would reboot. I replaced it and have not had a problem since.

Random lockups do sound like something overheating though. I would even check thermal compound between the cpu and heatsink. Maybe it was a grease that has dried up and no longer transfers heat adequetly.

I do not think it is overheating because:
Cpu temp is 52c
Mobo Temp is 31c
Ambient Temp is 32c
So not to bad i hope?

I don't know if this is relevent or not But i have moved house and town which is about 500km difference between towns. It ran fine with no random rebooting or lock ups before I shifted. The power in the new town is different. Old town had to transformers connected in case of problems new town is on a spur line and is towards the end of the line. Thats why i bought UPS as i thought power was problem.

maybe the motherboard is dying? i know this is probably a big task for a long shot, but there might be a chance that during the move, something on the motherboard got damaged?

looks like you tested everything except motherboard failure ...

good luck =P

I finally work out the bugcheck errors and how to read them and i came up with these errors ;
1. Bios telling windows that the computer is to hot and rebooting.
2. Conflict with creative live software and winXp.
3. Software conflit with easy creator 5 and winxp.
to name a few.
