Computer randomly shutting down

For nearly a year now, my custom p4 3.2 has been shutting down randomly and often makes a strange noise from the case (I believe it's the motherboard fan making the noise).

I figured the problem was overheating so I checked all the temperatures and some were as high as 79C. I then replaced the heatsink and there are now no temperatures over 50C.

Is this a hard drive, motherboard, overheating, or some other sort of issue? What should I do to test these things? If it's motherboard will I be better off just getting a new Dell?
