Ok, this has been a reoccurring problem with my uncles computer. It randomly restarts from windows xp. I understand that an error has happened and we are making it go to a blue screen now. here is the first stop code, and it gave a completely different stop code the second time, and a different code for the third time as well.

stop: 0x00000051 (0x00000004, 0x00000001, 0xE1FD3F80, 0x007837cc)

stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8058588B, 0xAB08E8A0, 0x00000000)

stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80585490, 0xAB11DBD0, 0x00000000)

Somethign to start with at least. It seems to change every time it reboots

Microsoft says that the STOP: 0x00000051 error is due to a corrupt registry:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282501&sd=RMVP

and the STOP: 0x0000008E errors are caused by failures in the GDI (graphics device interface):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330187

You might be able to resolve the issue if you have a valid ERD recovery disk for the computer. Otherwise you'll likely have to reinstall Windows on the computer...

EDIT: It looks like these errors can also be caused by defective RAM. Run a thorough MEMTEST and possibly try swapping the RAM in the PC to see if it resolves the problem.

not sure if we have one of those. Its Windows XP professional. He actually just told me that its been enclosed in the desk. So my thought is that it may just be overheating. But i dunno. If its the GDI, then should i replace the Video Card?

Crazed,

First, download MemTest86 and test the RAM.
The program creates a bootable floppy for testing your uncle's PC.
If at first you don't get any errors, let it run overnight.
Get back to us with the results.
