Computer problems....

I've been having problems with my second computer lately so I decided to fdisk the hard drive and reinstall win98. Well after the fdisk I restarted the comp like normal but then everytime the comp starts up its freezes when it said's it's Verifying DMI Pool Data. Whatever the hell that means. So now I'm stuck on how to get around this. I can't get to command prompt to restart from dos mode since it freezes and I've tried everythign I can think of to avoid this nothing works.

Any suggestions? This is particularly annoying to me as I just hooked up this second comp to a D-Llink Hub allowing me to share my cable modem connection with my other computer.

have you tried clearing cmos? if you go to the bios (you can still do that, right?) and set it to boot from floppy, does it get to the floppy or does it do the dmi pool data first?

I can still get into cmos yes. Just tried booting from floppy and that does work. Isn't there a way to load a boot disk from another comp on to a floppy? Been awhile since I've had to use a floppy like this, not since win95 anyway.

Actually I should say putting a blank disk in gives you the normal non system disk error.

When that happens ... I believe that means there is an IRQ conflict. Make sure your stuff isn't sharing one. I had that problem too.

LOL thanks for the help but I just tried rebooting for like the 20th time and suddenly it reads the cd rom drive and boots from the win98 disc. Go figure. Thanks though.

Nah wasn't an IRQ conflict either. Oh well thanks anyway.
