Computer Problem

On my computer everytime I boot up it goes into the normal startup for Windows XP Professional with the bar going accross a few times just before it reaches the point where I can choose which person I want to log into as. Just before I get to that point the system hangs and it goes to a black screen and the HDD LED light flashes every once in a while but it is a minor flash. I'm wondering if my hard drive died on me. Here is the computer specs from what I can remember:

800Mhz AMD T-Bird FOP38 CPU Fan
HighPoint Promise RAID Controller
WD (I think) 20GB 7200 RPM ATA 100 HDD
387 PC 100 SDRAM


I'm thinking that it has to be either Motherboard or HDD, but I can't imagine its my MOBO they usually don't just die out of the blue like a HDD might.

Any help would be nice. Thanks

Try to do it without the RAID controller and see if it works

I believe that it is onboard RAID, and I do not have RAID setup.
