Computer off for a few days, now won't get any video

Hey all. I just came back from a weekend back home and was going to install Ventrilo server on my linux machine for Guild Wars PvP communication.

I start it up and there's nothing. No video, absolutely nothing. This has happened before. I just reset the CMOS and I'm good to go. Not this time. I must have tried resetting it 15 times with absolutely no luck. Everything turns on, drive spins, CPU fan kicks on. But I never get any video. I do get some error codes though on the small LCD on the mobo. It alternates between these:

FF, which the manual says is some sort of CMOS error
C1, which the manual says is a memory issue

Is this board hosed? I've tried a couple different video cards and that makes no difference.

check the caps on the motherboard. Same thing happened to me, and i looked around, saw that many caps had leaked. So i had to RMA the board. I had tried many video cards and nothing worked.

Yeah I already RMA'd this board (well, not the exact board) once. I'm thinking I'll just go with a cheap replacement. Socket A boards can't be that expensive these days.

Wow, we should start a thread looking for people who HAVEN'T found swollen caps on their 8RDA boards !!! Just got mine back two weeks ago, and things are working so far. Epox must have a huge landfill devoted to bad caps from these boards.

Looks like I'll just be getting another brand! Wow I didn't realize Epox was so infamous for this. My first RMA was a leaky cap as well. I couldn't even get power to the board then. At least things turn on this time.

My 8RDA+ and 2500+ combo kicked the bucket over a month ago.

I used it as an excuse to upgrade to A64.

The RMA from Epox took a few weeks.

I just got back RMA 8RDA+ for my sister's computer. Bad caps. My wife's 8RDA+ also has bad caps, and I'll be sending that one for RMA in couple of weeks. Bad caps are not Epox only problem. Pretty much all motherboards built around 2001-2002 I believe suffers from this.

We've heard that same story about other manufacturers boards, but other than some Abit boards, I haven't seen it as consistently as Epox 8RDA boards. I still am waiting for an Epox 8RDA owner to chime in with news that his (factory stock) caps are in perfect working order. Too bad they haven't fixed things, just sending you another board with the same caps on it.

I have an Epox 8KHA+ and I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago and the LCD also read FF but the manual states "Boot attempt" I got another board a couple of days ago and I am still having the same problem. In my case is it the process that is the problem? The bad thing is that I don't have another Socket A CPU lying around to test it out.

By the way whats the proccess for RMA of an Epox board?

MGully, go to this website and click on RMA Request. You will have to have plenty of details handy, including the purchase date, where bought from and the serial number and model of the board. It is a one time only repair and my fee was $17.

This board lasted me three years, so I expect to get the same from the new one, assuming more faulty caps down the road. If it lasts that long, I guess I can't complain, but it does leave a sour taste in one's mouth as well.

I hate to bump this thread, but I'm about to RMA my 8RDA+ and I can't seem to fit the serial in the field they provide. Its only 12 characters long, and I get a javascript popup telling me that I need to enter more characters on the RMA form. Thanks in advance

edit: it worked fine, forgot to add the 8rda+ part in the beginning. I won't fill out RMA forms at 2 am anymore 🙂
